Walt Disney World testing reserved table system for quick service dining
October 6, 7:21 PM Walt Disney World Recreation Examiner Peggy Macdonald

Disney World is testing a new reservation system at its quick service restaurants with the dual goal of seating guests at a faster pace and increasing profits. As a result, the practice of sending a family member to save a table while another family member orders food and beverages is no longer allowed when Disney's theme park restaurants experience peak traffic. Under the new reservation system, Disney World cast members seat groups at tables, much like they would do at a traditional table service restaurant (minus the server). According to the Orlando Sentinel, select Magic Kingdom restaurants now restrict guest access to tables during peak dining periods while guaranteeing seating for diners. Although this new approach to quick service dining will help maximize profits for Disney World during the recession, it will inconvenience families with babies and young children, who will be required to stand in long lines instead of waiting at their table. Before this new system was implemented, one family member was free to feed a baby, park diaper bags and cumbersome packages, and allow young children and the elderly to rest at a table while another member of the party ordered food. It would appear that disabled guests will also be prevented from waiting at a table, although few lines accommodate disabled guests at the pick-up station. Currently the quick service dining reservation system remains in the testing phase. Disney has not decided if it will implement the new system at all of its quick service locations at the Walt Disney World resort.
What do you think of this? Will it help?

I had heard of this, and I don't think this seems very family-friendly. I also think it could really cause quite the bottleneck in the register/order ques.

It would be nice to avoid having people who aren't eating taking up the table space (like waiting for parades, other people, etc.....)
I think it could be a good thing if they could figure out a way to ensure that people who are sitting are eating, but still allow only one person to wait in line......otherwise, this is a bad idea.

I have some strong feeling about this...and think its a huge mistake..leaves a very foul taste in my mouth... NExt thing you know there going to tell you to leave as soon as your through eating.
Thanks to the free dining offers- there are some folks who are willing to pay that cant get reservations and are forced to eat at quick service when they would rather do a sti down meal....these folks cherish the time they are able to get off thier feet...and enjoy a meal.. All I got to say is if this were to happen to me - it wouldnt be pretty...dont tell me that when I am spending money in this establishment - I HAVE TO STAY WITH MY PARTY!!!! this is AMERICA I Think the free dining is a mistake...for the bottom line- how much money are the quick service places taking in daily...are they working off of credits for money that disney spent long ago when the consumer sent the money in for the package...
They also need to evaluate how many on site guests they know they will be serving- and how many day tickets they sell( these folks are likely to want counter service...-and realize the problem stems from something they have created themselves...free food- and not enough chairs to put people in.
All I got to say is there would be a manger in front of me quickly followed by a letter and a phone call.
OK..stopping my rant...I among other spend ALOT of money with Disney - and they can spare a seat if I need one. Perhaps they need to rethink all the space they are putting replications of product in and utilize it for peak eating time..
Stepping off the soapbox...
